Nicholas Kelaiditis, the president of the Hellenic Association of Travel and Tourist Agencies (HATTA), was recently appointed chairman of the Tourism Committee of the European Travel Agents & Tour Operators Association (ECTAA).

ECTAA represents some 70,000 travel agents and tour operators in Europe, which provide consultancy and sell transport, accommodation, leisure and other tourism services as well as combined products to leisure and business customers.

The association’s Tourism Committee is one of its many technical committees that have been established and which are composed of representatives of national delegations of Full Members, who have a specific expertise in the issues that are dealt with by the committee concerned.

HATTA’s president, Nicholas Kelaiditis, was appointed president of the Tourism Committee after being voted by ECTAA members on January 31.

As chairman of ECTAA’s Tourism Committee, Kelaiditis will oversee discussions concerning European tourism strategies; issues with regards to the main trends in tourism, institutional and legal issues; and issues on the objectives of European tourism.

“Travel agencies in recent years have been fighting their own daily battle as they face serious financial hardship. However, tourism never stops and we are willing to work for its resumption, eyeing development and the easing of difficult situations,” Kelaiditis said in an announcement.

“The technical European committees of ECTAA, the foremost expert on European tourism and representative of Europe’s travel agencies, are creating the right conditions to work towards this direction,” he added.
