Air Travel Greece on List of Top 10 European Countries Ranked by Flight Cancellations by GTP editing team 12 July 2022 written by GTP editing team 12 July 2022 5 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 34 Photo source: IATA Greece is in the seventh place on a list of the top 10 European countries ranked by recent flight cancellations released by travel intelligence provider Mabrian Technologies. The list, released on Tuesday, is part of a study by Mabrian to examine European flight cancellations by country and follows the provider’s recent analysis on the top 10 airlines by cancellations for European flights. The data compares the number of flights scheduled on June 14 to fly between 1 and 15 July, with flights scheduled as of July 5 and ranks them according to the origin country by the number of flights cancelled – as well as indicating the percentage of flights cancelled vs the overall flights that destination had scheduled originally. With 207 flights cancelled, Greece came in seventh on the percentage ranking, with a rate of 1.32 percent. Mabrian: Numbers are high but impact not as worrying “Once again we see that whilst the absolute number are high, in overall terms as a percentage of all flights scheduled the impact isn’t quite as worrying. For example Spain is at the bottom of the percentage ranking, with a rate is close to only 1 percent,” Mabrian Director of Sales & Marketing Carlos Cendra said. According to Cendra, the biggest impact is in Germany at 6 percent. “So whilst that means 19 out of 20 flights remain scheduled we shouldn’t forget that German connectivity has been slower than most in recovering to 2019 levels so this could slow the recovery further,” he said. Cendra added that in general across Europe airlines are finding people alternative flights in many cases. “So the number of people having to cancel plans is probably really quite low,” he said. I can still swim in beautiful places in Athens. The hotels are full of Americans, Arabics and Germans. Greeks are taking shorter travel and a lot of people will not travel this summer. Greece used to be a great value destination, but this year things changed! but I also a lot of hotels stopped abused staff (make them work for 15 hours per day and 7 days per week, that is why here in Greece still a lot of places are short staff). Reply Sandy 13 July 2022 - 21:07 Flights are being canceled in the US as well.Airlines didn’t plan for a “boom” of travel when restrictions were lifted. They are short staffed. Lack of employees is the main reason for the cancelations. Reply Nicholas Tarasidis 13 July 2022 - 14:24 GOOD STUFF. THANKS. ARE THESE OUTBOUND FLIGHTS TO OTHER EUROPEAN DESTINATIONS, ARE THEY TO THE ISLANDS. ARE THESE OUTBOUND FLIGHTS TO DESTINATIONS OUTSIDE THE EUROZONE?? NICK TARASIDIS Reply Carl+Simpson 13 July 2022 - 12:43 I would worry about the tourists who made it here to Greece as they are saying they won’t return due to the high costs number one fuel and hire car costs then food and hotel accommodation all of which has been inflated by the current Greek government. It seems the real news from the streets is not being reported I’m on Crete and I’m telling you the facts.
