Costa Nostrum is a certification standard for the sustainable management and development of beaches in the Mediterranean. Its “Sustainable Beaches” label recognizes the sustainable management and development of Mediterranean beaches. The newly certified beaches on Crete are located in the premises of the Cactus Hotels in Heraklion namely in the Cactus Beach, the Cactus Mare and the Cactus Bay. Costa Nostrum released the following video featuring underwater and aerial shots of Cactus Hotels’ certified areas. An online flipbook with photos of their underwater treasures is also available. Five beaches renew certification Costa Nostrum also announced that another five beaches on Crete have renewed their certification for the 2022-2023 period. The beaches are located in the premises of Apollonia Beach Resort & Spa, Creta Maris Beach Resort, TUI Magic Life Candia Maris and in the areas of Akti Karteros in Heraklion and Agia Pelagia in the Municipality of Malevizi. “In a period of climate crisis, maintaining the sustainability of Crete’s beaches and contributing to the upgrade of the island’s tourism product is a successful project for us,” Costa Nostrum CEO Vasilis Zisimopoulos said. “We are certain that our efforts to achieve a complete sustainable conversion will lead us to new certifications and ultimately to a world that will be largely based on sustainable development,” he added.
