The Greek island of Mykonos is getting ready to host its first running festival, a new sports tourism event scheduled to take place during September 30 – October 2.

Organized by the Mykonos Municipality and the MEAS Triton sports federation, the 1st Mykonos Running Festival aims to become a multi-sided running experience that will include an exciting program of parallel events.

“This new event will be a special experience that will give runners the opportunity to engage in quality tourism and also take part in a rich program of social, recreational and cultural events,” the organizers said.

The festival’s program is spread out in three races: the Half Marathon Mykonos Gold, the 10km Mykonos Run and the 2.5km Mykonos Family Fun. Parallel events include a Kids Athletics program, a concert, a beach party, a festival of traditional products and a business forum.

Open to athletes of all ages and categories as well as to people with disabilities, the 1st Mykonos Running Festival will take place in accordance with the regulations of the World Athletics on certified routes and in line with the health protocols announced by Greek authorities.

The festival will also focus on environmental protection though its social responsibility and sensitivity programs that aim to minimize the event’s ecological footprint.

More information on the festival is available at www.mykonosrunningfestival.org.
