Goldair Handling: New Eco-friendly Equipment at Athens International Airport

Aiming to reduce its environmental footprint in every aspect of its operations, Goldair Handling has introduced brand new eco-friendly equipment to Athens International Airport (AIA).

Part of Goldair Group, one of the largest group of companies engaged in the fields of tourism and transport in Greece, Goldair Handling provides airport handling services.

The company’s new equipment at the Greek capital’s airport is part of its investment plan that focuses on sustainable development and includes the replacement of the conventional engines of tractors with electric ones, as well as the gradual replacement of the fleet’s vehicles with electric ones.

Goldair Handling has already replaced 25 percent of its vehicles at the Athens airport station and will aim to replace the entire set by 2026.

The company has also replaced 30 percent of its tractors and forklifts with conventional engines with electric ones in its entire network in Greece, and has also already began using hybrid ground power units for business jets and helicopters.

In addition, Goldair Handling, in the framework of providing assistance to passengers with disabilities and/or reduced mobility, has already secured two modern electric passenger transport vehicles for the Athens airport station. Moreover, in accordance with its investment plan, the company has begun using solar energy passenger stairs.

Goldair Handling Operations Director Christos Pantazis highlighted the company’s commitment to sustainable development.

“In line with our commitment to provide safe, efficient and environmentally friendly services, Goldair Handling, despite the negative effects of the pandemic on industry, continues its strategic plan to reduce its environmental footprint and reduce carbon emissions in every aspect of our operations,” he said.

From AIA’s side, Environment Agency Director Michael O’Connor congratulated Goldair for its green investment initiatives.

“Goldair raises the level of service at our airport, with professionalism, sensitivity and with emphasis on customer service to passengers with disabilities and/or reduced mobility, as well as for its environmental performance,” he said.

O’Connor underlined that Goldair Handling’s green activities contributes substantially and effectively to AIA’s goal of promoting sustainability in every leg of the journey of every passenger passing through Athens Airport.
