The island of Crete has topped the list of the world’s cheapest romantic destinations for 2023, according to a survey recently released by Besteonlinecasinos.com.

Experts at the German website, inspired by the forthcoming Valentine’s Day and taking into consideration the cost-of-living crisis, sought out to find the cheapest and most romantic holidays destinations for 2023.

Their research included the study of a comprehensive list of the most romantic destinations from reputable articles, and the creation of an index taking into consideration three factors: the average Airbnb price per night, the price for a three-course meal for two people and the number of attractions per destination.

Chania, Crete.

Using all these factors Besteonlinecasinos.com created an index score out of 100.

Crete topped the list as the World’s Cheapest Romantic Destination of 2023 with an index score of 90.1.

According to the survey, the average Airbnb price per night for two people on Crete is only 94 euros while a three-course meal for two people at a mid-range restaurant costs approximately 35.37 euros.

Crete also boasts a whopping 2,667 number of attractions a couple can visit while vacating there like the Old Venetian Harbor on Chania, the medieval setting of the town of Rethymno, or the Zaros mountain village near Heraklio.

Knossos, Crete.

Following Crete in the list is Budapest, Hungary with a score of 82.9, while Prague, Czech Republic (80.2), Porto, Portugal (78.4) and Cappadocia, Turkey (76.6) round up the top 5.

Overall, Plovdiv in Bulgaria had the lowest average Airbnb price per night for two people, with Cappadocia, Turkey offering the cheapest three-course meal for two people and London, UK offering the highest number of attractions per destination.

Popular Greek destinations Mykonos and Santorini also got mentioned on the list with an index score of 9.9 and 40.5 respectively.

If Greece had direct flights all year round then people would probably show up. It’s not cost effective without direct flights especially to the islands.
