Americans made the largest number of online searches for accommodation in Athens in 2022, reflecting an increasing demand from the US, according to data released this week by Tourix. More specifically, the US market is followed by the UK, France, Germany, Cyprus, Italy, Israel, Canada, Australia and the Netherlands in terms of number of searches for accommodation in Athens. At the same time, search numbers for accommodation in the Greek capital peaked in 2022 exceeding 2021 and pre-Covid 2019. September saw the largest increase in search volume with March and May through November maintaining a steady pace. According to the tourism marketing company, searches for accommodation in Athens from the US, Israel, Germany and the UK marked the largest percentage change in 2022 compared to 2019. Sharp rises in searches over 2021 were also seen in Australia, Canada and Cyprus. Source: Tourix. Overall, Tourix analysts said the number of searches for Athens accommodation increased in all countries analyzed. Data for the study was based on the volume of searches collected using search terms that are directly related to staying in Athens. Backing the news, a recent AirDNA study found demand for Airbnbs in Athens in the last months of 2022 to be up by 124.9 percent over the same period in 2021. Meanwhile, according to another study by Tourix, interest in tourism jobs in Greece appears to be increasing with the growing number of searches on Google in 2022 having to do with professions in hospitality.
