Public transportation in Athens and ferry travel in Greece will be disrupted on Wednesday, March 8, due to a 24-hour strike called by the Greek Civil Servants’ Confederation (ADEDY), the country’s main public sector umbrella union.

The strike has been announced in reaction to last week’s fatal train crash in Tempi, Central Greece, which killed 57 passengers and left dozens injured.

According to announcements so far, on Wednesday:

public services in Greece will be closed

ferry employees will be on a 24-hour strike, as announced by the Pan-Hellenic Seamen’s Federation, known as PNO. (Travelers who have booked ferry tickets for Wednesday, are advised to check with their travel agents or contact local port authorities for further information.)
