Lonely Planet has included two beaches in Greece on its list of the Top 20 most Stunning Beaches in Europe to Explore in 2023. Founded in Australia in 1973, Lonely Planet has printed over 150 million travel books, and its digital version boasts 140 apps and 8.5 million unique users. The online magazine’s award-winning editor and photographer, Kerry Walker, undertook the task of compiling the Top 20 European Beaches list, considering factors such as popularity, natural beauty, and uniqueness. Navagio beach, Zakynthos. Navagio Beach on Zakynthos was selected as the 9th best European beach to visit this summer. Known as “the Greek beach of a million postcards”, Navagio stands out for its unique landscape, featuring a shipwreck in the middle of a sand strip, overlooked by cliffs, and embraced by “out of this world” blue waters. The second Greek beach mentioned on the list is Myrtos Beach on Kefalonia. Claiming the 19th position, Myrtos is hailed by Walker as a “fiercely beautiful white-pebble bay, framed by sheer cliffs and caressed by the sea in various shades of blue.” Haukland Beach, Norway. Haukland Beach in Norway clinched the top spot on the list, with its “spiky granite peaks thrusting above creamy sands and sapphire sea,” as noted by Walker. It was followed by Cala Goloritzè in Italy and West Beach in Scotland. Rounding up the top 5 are Plage de Palombaggia in Corsica and Platja Illetes in Spain. It’s important to mention that access to Navagio Beach in Zakynthos is currently banned this summer.
