Rhodes, Greece.

Rhodes and Chania on Crete are among British travelers’ favorite seaside places to holiday this year but all-time favorite Mykonos has dropped in popularity, found the latest survey released by consumer review site Which?.

The survey assessed the experiences of 3,500 travelers who rated 44 coastal towns and cities across Europe for their beach, seafront or marina, food and drink, accommodation, tourist attractions, attractiveness, shopping, entertainment, peace and quiet, safety, friendliness, and value for money.

Chania, Crete.

The European coastal destination Britons love the most in 2023 is Valencia in Spain with an overall score of 91 percent. Valencia topped the poll with a destination score of 91 percent, receiving five-star reviews in seven out of the 12 categories.

“Visitors heaped praise on the city’s beaches, rating them a full five stars out of five, and it was the only Spanish destination in the survey to score full marks for value for money,” said Which?, adding that the Spanish city had also scored a full five stars for the quality of its tourist attractions, shopping, friendliness and attractiveness.

Two coastal towns in Greece made it into the Top 10: Chania in 6th spot and Rhodes in 7th while Athens made it into the leading 20 at 11th spot and Corfu at 14th.

The Top 10 seaside towns and cities in Europe according to Which? reviews are: Valencia, Spain; Porto, Portugal; Venice, Italy; Tavira, Portugal; Pollença, Mallorca Spain; Chania Town, Crete, Greece; Rhodes, Greece; Syracuse, Sicily, Italy; Barcelona, Spain; and Lisbon, Portugal.

Mykonos drops in popularity

Mykonos, Greece.

At the bottom of the list in spot 20, once popular Greek island Mykonos with a total score of 58 percent awarded three stars for its sea, marina and friendliness and four stars for its attractiveness. Impacting Mykonos is its reputation for overcharging foods and drinks.

According to Which?, the list of UK travelers’ least favorite coastal stays are: Mykonos, Greece; Fuengirola, Spain; Portimao, Portugal; Napoli, Italy; Benalmadena, Spain; Marseille, France; Catania, Italy; Albufeira, Portugal; Carvoeiro, Portugal; and Benidorm, Spain.

So Yasou Mykonou mas….I lived with you, healed and recovered with you and gave my devotion by working in Tourism Industry for many years… This is not what it was supposed to turn out to be!… Should the survey be an indicator,it would be much more serious in consequences and reputation, actually it has been heading this way for a long time!…. With the downturn in Global Economy, interest rates on the rise, cost of living crisis,I don’t know the answer!…and yet Maria our distinguished journalist who writes articles often for GTP says …. ‘Mykonou has an aura’….I couldn’t agree more with her…. for Mykonou healed me from my life changing circumstances back in early 90s! Kalley Mera from Thailand GTP!… fine reporting!… Bravo sas!

Just back from Three weeks in Crete, and found it very expensive, we have been going since 2001 but now may have to look elsewhere.
