The first step he said is to rebrand the Attica region as the “Greater Athens Region” taking advantage of the Greek capital’s recognizability worldwide. Hardalias said Athens was “the global star of Greek tourism” which gave the region a strategic advantage. He said the goal was to make the Attica region “dynamic and actively present” in the national strategy for further tourism development. This is the direction, said Hardalias, of the strategic plan to promote the region worldwide which is set to be implemented in the next five years. Governor of the Attica Region, Nikos Hardalias. He went on to add that the focus of the strategy will be on enhancing brand Athens through its cultural offerings, gastronomy, sports, entertainment and products, key among which its wines. “Our bet is multifold: extroversion, rebranding, strategic framework, infrastructure,” he said. The governor of Attica also adds that the action plan will focus on improving the daily living conditions for residents and visitors through key infrastructure and road network upgrades, heightening safety, and protecting the natural habitat. Attica is the largest of Greece’s 13 regions and includes Athens, Piraeus, the Athenian Riviera and the islands of Agistri, Aegina, Poros, Hydra, and Spetses.
