Trade Associations - Gov Greece’s Gov.gr Wallet Adds Pet Identification to its Digital Services by GTP editing team 8 August 2024 written by GTP editing team 8 August 2024 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 39 Photo source: Digital Governance Ministry In Greece, pets now have their own electronic identity records, which veterinarians update during visits. Pet owners can access this information easily through the Gov.gr Wallet, a mobile application that allows citizens to create, store, and view digital documents. The Gov.gr Wallet will include comprehensive details such as the pet’s name, photo, microchip number, and medical history, including vaccination dates. This feature enables pet owners to monitor their animals’ health more effectively and quickly raise alerts if their pets go missing. The integration of the National Pet Register, available through the pet.gov.gr site, into the Gov.gr Wallet is the result of a collaborative effort by three Greek ministries: the Ministry of Digital Governance, the Ministry of the Interior, and the Ministry of Economy and Finance. These ministries have streamlined processes for Greek citizens by providing access to the Gov.gr Wallet via mobile phones through the App Store or Google Play, as well as through the wallet.gov.gr website. Services of Gov.gr Wallet The pet register is the latest addition to the Gov.gr Wallet, which now encompasses ten categories of data. Other categories include Police Identity Cards, Driver’s Licenses, Cards for individuals with mobility or health issues, digital unemployment cards, vehicle ownership documents, academic identity cards, and more. New features for sports fans A recent addition to the Gov.gr Wallet is a feature for sports fans living abroad. This service allows them to verify their identity for event tickets by reading the NFC chip in their passports. To use this feature, passport holders with NFC chips must open the Gov.gr Wallet app, bypass the code requirements, access it through guest mode, and select “event tickets”. Cutting red tape with Gov.gr Wallet Photo source: Digital Governance Ministry Another significant feature of the Wallet allows citizens to authorize the release of their personal data to third parties, including both public and private entities. This eliminates the need for individuals to present identity or other documents in person, as the information can now be electronically shared with authorized entities. For example, insurance companies can automatically receive all necessary information digitally registered by public authorities for vehicle insurance purposes. To date, the Gov.gr Wallet app has been installed on the mobile phones of 4,026,645 Greek citizens.
