Upgrading and expanding the marina network is a key component of the Greek government’s strategic plan for the present and future of tourism, according to Greek Tourism Minister Olga Kefalogianni.

Speaking on Thursday at the inauguration of the Olympic Yacht Show 2024 at the Olympic Marine marina in Sounio, Kefalogianni emphasized the Tourism Ministry’s goals for sustainable and high-quality tourism development, highlighting the significant growth potential of maritime tourism.

“From yachting and cruising to various marine leisure activities, maritime tourism requires cohesive planning to further showcase our country’s extensive coastline, numerous islands, and unique travel experiences,” she said.

Kefalogianni also noted that the Recovery and Resilience Fund is financing marina infrastructure upgrades across Greece, aimed at delivering high-quality services to visitors. Additionally, targeted measures are being implemented to streamline the regulatory framework governing marina locations and operations.

The tourism minister further announced the launch of the Eastern Mediterranean Coastal and Maritime Tourism Observatory in Greece, established in partnership with the World Tourism Organization (UN Tourism). Inaugurated on October 7, the observatory includes representatives from Mediterranean countries and serves as a platform for collaboration.

“This initiative will enable us to monitor and measure the sustainable development of coastal and marine tourism in our region, providing essential insights to inform a long-term strategy,” Kefalogianni said.

The minister also praised the Olympic Yacht Show for its dynamic contribution to the growth of marine tourism, reaffirming the government’s commitment to positioning Greece as a leader in the maritime tourism sector, in alignment with the goals of yacht industry professionals and entrepreneurs.

Now in its fourth year, the Olympic Yacht Show is a leading in-water boat show in Greece, showcasing a wide range of superyachts, boats, and tenders. Running until October 13, the show hosts some of the largest yachting companies both on land and in water, with over 90 new yachts on display, including world premieres from Greek shipyards.
