The Authentic” welcomed athletes and visitors from around the world, with Greek runners taking center stage this year. Held during November 9-10, the Athens Marathon saw Greeks claim the top four positions, with a Dutch athlete rounding out the top five. In the women’s race, Greek athletes also took the first three places, making it a triumphant event for local talent. Photo source: SEGAS Charalampos Pitsolis claimed first place, crossing the finish line in Athens’ iconic Panathenaic Stadium with a time of 2 hours, 18 minutes, and 56 seconds. Pitsolis, who was crowned Panhellenic champion for the second time after his 2022 victory, was closely followed by Panagiotis Karaiskos, who finished in 2 hours, 19 minutes, and 50 seconds. Photo source: SEGAS / EUROKINISSI In the women’s race, Thessaloniki’s Stamatia Noula came in first, clocking 2 hours, 40 minutes, and 19 seconds — a record-breaking time for the women’s Panhellenic category. Gloria Privileggio followed with a time of 2 hours, 41 minutes, and 58 seconds, and Yiota Vlachaki finished third with a time of 2 hours, 47 minutes, and 28 seconds. Photo source: SEGAS The president of the Hellenic Athletics Federation (SEGAS), Sofia Sakorafa, alongside other federation leaders, welcomed the athletes at the finish line, congratulating each as they entered the stadium to the cheers of a lively crowd. The event included participants with mobility challenges, along with Greek students representing their schools, all contributing to the marathon’s inclusive spirit. Additional races of up to 10 kilometers allowed families, couples, and international tourists to join in, some dressed in outfits inspired by ancient Greece and others wearing their national colors. This year’s marathon medals were designed by renowned Greek artist Kostas Tsoklis, adding an artistic touch to the celebration of endurance and unity in sport.
