Greek Regional Airports Welcome Over 35 Million Passengers in Jan-Nov 2024

Fraport Greece, which manages 14 regional airports across Greece, has reported strong performance in passenger traffic during the first 11 months of 2024. According to the company’s data, a total of 35.2 million passengers passed through Fraport-managed airports from January to November, marking an increase of 6.4 percent compared to the same period in 2023.

In November alone, passenger traffic saw an impressive 11.6 percent growth compared to the previous year.

Fraport Greece oversees a number of key airports, including Aktio, Chania, Corfu, Kavala, Kefalonia, Thessaloniki, Zakynthos, Kos, Mytilini, Mykonos, Rhodes, Samos, Santorini, and Skiathos.

Among the 14 airports, Rhodes emerged as the top performer, while Mykonos recorded a decline in passenger numbers.

Rhodes Airport leads growth

Rhodes Airport saw a significant rise in passenger traffic, handling 6.013 million international passengers during the 11-month period, a 13.7 percent increase from 5.289 million in 2023.

In contrast, Mykonos Airport experienced a decline of 5.1 percent, serving 1.069 million international passengers compared to 1.127 million in 2023.

Other airports showed varied but positive growth, with Santorini recording 1.54 million international passengers (an increase of 1.8 percent), Chania handling 3 million passengers (+8.4 percent), Corfu serving 3.9 million (+6.7 percent), and Kos welcoming 2.7 million passengers (+3.6 percent).

Thessaloniki Airport also saw growth, with a total of 6.8 million passengers in the first 11 months, a 4.6 percent increase. This included 2.2 million domestic passengers and 4.6 million international passengers.

Passenger origin countries

In November, Greece led the list of countries of origin for international passengers at Fraport airports. Germany ranked second, followed by the United Kingdom in third. Cyprus and Italy rounded out the top five countries of origin.
