The Third International Rhodes Tourism Forum, organized by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Dodecanissos and the Association for the Development and Progress of the Dodecanissos, will be held on Rodos 24-25 October.

A seminar/workshop recently took place at Jennifer Home Hotel in Drama for the businessmen that are members of the Tourism Development Company for Alternative Tourism in the prefecture of Drama, within the framework of the company’s contract with the University of the Aegean. The seminar was part of an ambitious aim to create and establish a tourism identity for the region and the businesses that form this ‘Cluster.’

The Hellenic Association of Travel & Tourist Agencies recently hosted a meeting/workshop for Tunisian tour operators and their Greek counterparts at Stratos Vassilikos Hotel in Athens. Greek travel agency representatives and members of HATTA met with the Tunisian tour operators so as to exchange views and initiate new cooperation.

A major meeting of travel “bloggers” from around the world is planned for the first time at the PhoCusWright@ITB Berlin event during the ITB Berlin exhibition this month. According to the organizers, “Bloggers are regarded as influential opinion-formers since user-generated content can make a significant contribution to increasing sales in the travel industry.” The ITB Berlin workshop aims to provide an opportunity for experienced trade visitors and employees of tourism businesses who are using the Internet increasingly as a sales channel to learn from first-hand experience on how to make effective use of blogs on tourism Internet sites and on online communities. The workshop is free and due to take place on March 5. An international team of bloggers from the travel industry will present concepts, technologies, innovations and current issues that are being featured on tourism and travel blogs

The Hellenic Association of Travel and Tourism Services recently hosted an annual event by members of the board and the association’s air matters committee in honor of the airline industry. Representatives from airline companies and distribution companies (CRS) as well as members of tourism and the travel media attended the event.

The Organization of Tourism Education and Training, represented by president of the administration board of OTEK, Dr. Konstantinos Kouskoukis, recently participated in a tourism workshop between Greece and South Korea in Seoul.

The first Tourism & Property Roadshow, dubbed “The London Event” by the organizer, was held in London recently to promote Greek holiday homes abroad. The Roadshow was held in London’s Hellenic Center and attracted a large amount of potential investors.

The Hellenic Association of Travel and Tourist Agencies recently expressed its satisfaction as Greek consumers show increasing trust in travel agencies and the holiday packages they offered during the festive season.

After the success of the World Tourism Day 2007 theme “Tourism opens doors for women,” the United Nations World Tourism Organization’s (UNWTO) general assembly recognized the importance of the themes and established the campaign as an annual event so as to raise awareness on the constructive social role of tourism. The general assembly took place in Cartagena de Indias, Columbia.

Some 18,000 visitors passed through the Exclusive Yachting 2007 exhibition held recently at the Marina of Agios Kosmas. The five-day event offered visitors, according to the organizers, Europartners, a unique experience of yachting and lifestyle up to par with other international exhibitions of this kind held in Cannes, Monaco and Genova.
