Photo © Heracles Kritikos / Shutterstock The Greek National Opera (GNO) will celebrate the Athenian summer with a large open-air surprise-concert on Tuesday 8 July in Athens city center. Acclaimed Greek National Opera soloists and choir will interpret arias, duets and choruses from the repertoire’s most popular operas at the emblematic archaeological site, the Temple of Olympian Zeus. Performances will be in Greek, thus honoring the Greek National Opera’s great and longstanding tradition until the late ‘70s, of presenting the works in the Greek language. The GNO’s archive contains excellent translations of librettos from all the famous works into the Greek language. With the open-air surprise-concert, the GNO attempts to step back in the past in the most lyrical manner. This is considered a unique opportunity for the public to get acquainted with Loukìa tou Lammermoòr instead of Lucia di Lammermoor, as well as the Greek version of The woman is fickle – La donna è mobile, from Verdi’s Rigoletto. The concert starts at 8:30 pm. Admission is free with priority tickets that will be distributed two hours prior to the commencement of the performance at the event venue.
