British Ambassador: All is Well Οn the Greek Islands

There are no reports from tour operators to suggest that there are disruptions to services on the Greek islands, British Ambassador to Greece John Rittmer said in a statement released by Greek newspaper Kathimerini on Tuesday.

The British Ambassador noted that there is “considerable uncertainty” about what happens next in the country and urged all sides to reach an agreement that would defuse the crisis.

He also informed that his teams in Athens and on Rhodes, Corfu, Crete and Zakynthos are available to support British nationals who find themselves in need.

“From over 30 years of travelling and now living in Greece, I know that Greece is a hospitable country, and that Greeks will do all they can in exceptional times to make tourists welcome”, he said.

Foreign Office: Updated advise for travel to Greece

Travel advice from the Foreign Office says that, in recent days, the media have reported a shortage of medical supplies in Greece.

“Make sure you have sufficient medical supplies (including prescription medicines) for the duration of your stay and any unforeseen delays”, the advise reads.

The Foreign Office says that while banks are closed in Greece, UK holidaymakers can continue to withdraw cash using their cards (cash, debit card, credit card) as normal, up to the daily limit imposed by the Greek banking system (usually €600), or the daily limit imposed by their banks – whichever is the lower amount, as long as the ATM has been replenished.

UK holidaymakers are also advised to take sufficient euros in cash to cover the duration of their stay, emergencies, unforeseen circumstances and any unexpected delays.
