The average nightly price for a hotel room in the Greek capital came to 127 euros against 108 euros per night in September 2014, with accommodation in Monaco being Europe’s most costly at 369 euros a night. Among the cities charging the highest for an overnight stay are London, Amsterdam and Paris, which are also among the most popular autumn destinations. In the meantime, Athens and Thessaloniki aside, hotel rates at other Greek destinations fell against the same period in the previous year. Compared to September last year, nightly stays on both Santorini and Mykonos were cheaper by 4 percent and 5 percent, respectively. The average cost of accommodation on Santorini came to 248 euros in September, 40 percent lower than in August, whereas on Mykonos, the charge dropped by 55 percent. Significant decreases were also recorded on the Ionian islands as well as on the Saronic isles with popular Hydra hotels reducing their prices by 54 percent in September, compared to August.
