Sea Tourism Greek Gov’t Pushes for New Port Regulatory System by GTP editing team 5 May 2016 written by GTP editing team 5 May 2016 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 30 Shipping and Island Policy Minister Thodoris Dritsas said last week that the government would go ahead with a law for the re-establishment of the Regulatory Authority for Ports as an independent entity as well as the creation of a Public Ports Authority and a Regional Piraeus Port Department. The minister said the government was pushing for the completion of the framework in order to ensure “comprehensive institutional control of port services for the protection of the public interest”. The draft law also allows for the possibility of island communities through local administration to address their own transportation needs through entering individual contracts with public sector bodies — with the approval of the Coastal Transportation Council — for the charter and execution of ferry services.
