The South Aegean Region will be hosting the “European Young Chef Award” competition in 2019, the region’s governor George Hatzimarkos recently announced. The event, which has since its inception been held in Barcelona, will be hosted by the South Aegean Region within the framework of its “European Region of Gastronomy 2019” title awarded earlier this year. The European Young Chef Award contest is organized and promoted by the International Institute of Gastronomy, Culture, Art and Tourism (IGCAT), the European Region of Gastronomy Platform and Escola Universitària d’Hoteleria i Turisme de Sant Pol de Mar. Hatzimarkos made the announcement during a meeting with Rhodes chef Stamatis Misomikes, who was selected “European Young Chef” for 2016. Misomikes together with 20-year-old Spyros Kouyios will represent the region at the “European Young Chef Award 2017”. The competition will be held in Barcelona on November 5-6 between finalists of regional competitions from around Europe.
