Company updates Mohegan Says Covid-19 Won’t Stop Hellinikon Casino Project in Greece by GTP editing team 5 May 2020 written by GTP editing team 5 May 2020 0 comments Share 0FacebookTwitterLinkedinWhatsappEmail 58 MGE’s INSPIRE Athens project American gaming and entertainment giant Mohegan said this week that its investment plan to create the first Integrated Resort and Casino (IRC) in Greece at Hellinikon would move ahead as scheduled, if selected, despite the coronavirus outbreak. “Mohegan Gaming Entertainment (MGE) fully maintains its commitment to make Greece the leading destination for entertainment and business conferences in Europe through the creation of INSPIRE Athens,” said Mario Kontomerkos, the president and CEO of US-based Mohegan Gaming & Entertainment (MGE). In partnership with GEK TERNA, MGE will proceed with its INSPIRE Athens project to include a luxury hotel, entertainment venues, convention center, shopping, dining, casino, and a comprehensive mix of premium amenities and to create 7,000 jobs if selected as the winning bidder for the 30-year license. MGE President and CEO Mario Kontomerkos. “Despite the unprecedented impact of the pandemic on the gambling sector, our teams are working diligently on the project and are fully prepared to begin construction if MGE emerges as the preferred company by the competent contracting authority,” Kontomerkos added. The final decision hinges on a court decision after a preliminary inquiry suspended the Hellenic Gaming Commission’s (EEEP) international tender for the casino permit following an appeal filed by global entertainment and hospitality brand, Hard Rock International – the second bidder vying for the contract.
