According to data released by AIA, passenger traffic during July amounted to 2.83 million, up 62.6 percent compared to the same month in 2021 and just 5.1 percent below the respective pre-Covid 2019 levels. Domestic passengers approached the respective 2019 levels, lagging behind by only 0.3 percent, while international air travellers presented a single-digit decline of 7.2 percent vs 2019. January-July 2022 Overall, during the first seven months of 2022, the airport’s passenger traffic totalled 11.8 million, below the respective 2019 levels by 17.1 percent. Analytically, between January and July this year, domestic passengers lagged behind 2019 levels by 10.5 percent and international passengers by 20 percent. Domestic flights reach 2019 levels The airport’s number of flights during the first seven months of 2022 amounted to 117,150, i.e. 8.2 percent below the respective 2019 levels. Analytically, domestic flights reached the 2019 levels (+0.3 percent), while international operations remained below the 2019 levels by 14.4 percent. Greek Tourism Minister Vassilis Kikilias recently said that almost 6 million travelers are expected to fly to Athens in the second half of the year (H2), marking the best record for September.
