AnODIC, the Ancient Olynthos Digital Information Center, is now open to the public, as announced by the Antiquity Ephorate of Halkidiki and Mount Athos.

Ancient Olynthos, the most important city on the Halkidiki Peninsula during the 5th century B.C., was renowned for its economic and military strength. The city was destroyed in 348 B.C. by Phillip II, the Macedonian King.

The center, located within the archaeological site of Olynthos, has been updated and upgraded. Visitors can now learn about the history of ancient Olynthos in an interactive and engaging environment. All information, photographs, miniature depictions, and sketches are presented in both Greek and English.

Among the exhibits, visitors can enjoy an interactive digital calendar, allowing them to take an educational journey into the past. They can also take a virtual tour of the archaeological site, exploring the city’s development through its buildings, artifacts, architectural remnants, and archaeological findings.

Additionally, 3D models enable visitors to “touch” and study the material goods of the people of ancient Olynthos, while a photographic exhibition narrates the story of archaeologists working to uncover this ancient city. Videos on the life of the city and its historic moments will further engage and entertain visitors.

Moreover, a number of apps are now available through the website of the Antiquities Ephorate of Halkidiki and Mount Athos or by scanning QR codes on-site. These apps provide information and offer a digital tour guide for additional ancient cities on the Peninsula, including Stagira, Nea Kallikratia, Potidea, Afytos and Ierissos.
