The Hellenic Association of Professional Congress Organizers (HAPCO) recently warned representatives of the Greek tourism leadership in regards to the “dangerous” downward course of Greek congress tourism and what ever that implies for the already “plagued” Greek economy.

“Amadeus Hellas will continue to support travel professionals in every possible way in order to enable the success in their business efforts,” General Manager Amadeus Hellas Eva Karamanou told GTP during a specially designed one-day seminar for travel agencies organized for the first time in Athens, Greece, by global distribution system provider Amadeus.

The potential for sea tourism and the development of the economies of Greece, the Eastern Mediterranean and the Black Sea region will be examined during the first Posidonia Sea Tourism Forum, scheduled to take place 21-22 June at the Onassis Cultural Center in Athens.

The president of the outgoing Board of Directors of the Hellenic Association of Travel and Tourist Agencies (HATTA), Yiorgos Telonis, opened the association’s annual general assembly last month with good news for the staff of travel agencies and tour buses.

“The millions of tourists that visit Greece for a four-day stay each year will eat breakfast at least 60 million times during their stay and therefore gain knowledge of traditional Greek cuisine,” was just one of the expert opinions heard at the first National Council of Gastronomy organized recently by the Hellenic Chef’s Association.

Chaotic bureaucracy, ski resorts that do not bear the appropriate GNTO seal due to land-use matters and the strong competition from neighboring countries are just some of the problems of Greek ski tourism, experts stressed at a recent forum held in Athens for the development of ski tourism in Greece.

“Does Greece’s tourism product benefit from the operation of low cost carriers in the country?” was one of the main questions asked at the “Low cost carriers in the Greek skies” assembly organized recently in Athens by the Hellenic Aviation Society and the Hellenic Association of Airline Representatives.

“We will continue to invest in our online development tools, our e-commerce solutions in order to help our customers diversify and grow their online business,” Amadeus Hellas’ CEO Eva Karamanou recently told GTP during the “Brighter, Bolder, Better e-Commerce” forum by global distribution system provider Amadeus that took place in Sophia Antipolis, France.

“A city adds value to the professional and the creator depending on the strength of its identity and Thessaloniki must obtain a strong identity,” Culture and Tourism Minister Pavlos Geroulanos said during an international culture and tourism forum held recently in Thessaloniki by the local Makedonia Media Group.

The first “National Council of Gastronomy,” held under the auspices of the Greek National Tourism Organization, will take place at the 6th HO.RE.CA. scheduled for 3-6 February at the ExpoAthens exhibition center in Anthousa, eastern Attica.
